Preset loaded: JPEG, 45 KB at 140 px — inside RRB's 30–49 KB band. The photo is no longer an upload; see below.
Portal limits change — double-check the current notification before you submit.
Quality is lowered only as far as the floor allows. If that still isn't enough, the image is scaled down in small steps instead — downscaling looks far better than heavy compression artifacts. EXIF metadata (location, camera, serial numbers) is always removed for your privacy; colour accuracy is kept.
The current RRB notifications changed how this works, and it catches people out: the photograph is now captured live through your webcam or phone front camera inside the application, and uploading a saved photo is not permitted. Only the signature is still a file. The CENs set it at 30–49 KB in JPG or JPEG, minimum 140 × 60 pixels at 100 DPI, signed inside a 35 mm × 20 mm box. Note the band is 30–49 KB rather than 30–50, and that it sits higher than the 10–20 KB most other exams use — so a signature prepared for SSC or IBPS will usually be too small for RRB. Older RRB cycles used different figures again, so check the CEN you are actually applying under.
The result always lands just under it.
One file or a batch — highest quality that fits.

Drop it above and press Resize — the result lands just under 45 KB at the highest quality that fits.
No. Everything runs in your browser — safe for ID photos and signatures.
Almost always size or format. Set the portal's exact limit as your target, pick JPEG, re-upload.
